trick: de-silking corn
A few weeks ago, my dad sent me a link to this video, which made de-silking corn look like magic. Since corn has started popping up at the farmers market, I decided to test it out.
I processed the first ear like the video instructed - but microwaved the corn for only three minutes. It really worked! I struggled a bit because I should have cut more of the heel off but there was not a single silk strand left. Nada.
For the second method, I microwaved the corn for three minutes, again with the husks and silk still attached. This time, I just peeled back the husks and kept them attached. I was able to pull the silk off, which was now soft and steamed, in one clump. There were a few bits remaining but nothing dreadful.
Between the two, I'll keep my preferred method of peeling back the husks to remove the silk. I like the way it looks (especially once you tie the husks together), having a built-in handle and an entire cob of corn to eat.
